Getting Started

Getting Started

For some, the best training option for you and your dog is a simple decision. For others, the options can be quite overwhelming. Because the majority of dog trainers offer similar services, it can be difficult to determine the best dog training option to meet your specific situation and needs.

BarNone K9 can help guide you through the choices to help you determine the best fit for youThe first step in deciding on any training program is a meet and greet where we discuss several topics over approximately 1-2 hours. I am interested in knowing the good, bad, and the ugly about your dog so I can tailor the training to your needs. I will also go over my training principles where you see, feel, and try all of the training equipment and are confident moving forward. Very soon, you will realize that I’m not like most trainers because I’ll will be telling you things that you need to hear instead of what you want to hear. It’s extremely important for everyone involved to feel comfortable and confident in my training approach before we begin training.

I am always accepting new clients – but not everyone!

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to “fix” your dog…
If you think you don’t have to put time and effort in with your dog…

I’m not the trainer for you.

Services

Services

I offer several options to fit your training needs, although 99% of my clients benefit from my Hybrid Program – below are a few options. If you don’t see the service you are looking for, please contact me and see if I can accommodate you.

Hybrid Program

This program is designed to enforce consistent around the clock structure. Your dog will be on a training, eating, playing, and sleeping schedule to maximize learning and minimize stress.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are a great option if you are looking for a more hands-on approach to training. I will be able to give you and your dog 100% attention that you deserve. Sessions are great for general obedience, resolving problem behaviors, teaching fun tricks/sports, and everything in between!

Nosework

Inspired by working detection dogs, K9 Nose Work is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.

Meet Your Trainer

Meet Your Trainer

I am Robert “Robi” Taylor, owner of BarNone K9, LLC. Like most, my love for dogs began at an early age. I had three golden retrievers growing up, but it was not until I was 29 years old that I acquired my own dog, Nala. Little did I know; my life was about to change dramatically.

I was clueless on how to properly train my dog and it was embarrassing. I became obsessed with learning anything and everything I could to teach my puppy. I became so consumed with dogs that I began to volunteer at local shelters, obtain apprenticeships under local trainers, work with police K9’s, and anything else that would benefit me as a dog enthusiast. Each day, my passion for learning about dogs was growing and I knew I wanted to take the next step and turn my passion into a career.

My Methods

My Methods

My training philosophy is based on five pillars. The first three are what every dog needs to learn – consistency, timing, and motivation. The next two pillars will sky-rocket progress – a strong bond/relationship, along with a clear marker system. Implementing these five pillars, I will make your dog’s customized training plan, providing a fun and rewarding experience for you and your dog! Read more

Consistency

Consistency over time is what allows all the little short term lessons and training sessions to add up to something amazing. While a dog’s short term memory is very short, with consistency, each training session is one step closer to the desired behavior being solidly encoded in its long term memory.

Timing

Dogs live in the now. With a short term memory of just over a second (1.3 seconds on average), our timing must be impeccable in marking specific behaviors. Once that narrow window of time has passed, the dog has moved on, and so must we. Operating within this timing window is critical in helping the dog understand what is and isn’t expected of them.

Motivation

Understanding what motivates your dog is the first step in creating a proper line of communication. Whether it’s food, praise, or play – rewards/relationship is the foundation of my training approach. You wouldn’t work for free, and neither should your dog-which is why I tap into what they enjoy most. After all, training should be beneficial and FUN!

FAQ

FAQ

My dog is uncontrollable on a walk – pulling, lunging, barking – can you fix this?

Yes, I deal with this all the time. Every dog I train is taught how to walk properly on a leash and ignore distractions.

Do you use positive reinforcement?

Absolutely! 95% of my training is positive reinforcement. It’s a crucial component of dog training for teaching new behaviors and rewarding those that you want to see more of – but it has its limitations. You cannot stop unwanted behaviors with positive reinforcement only.
